The Team

Janet Bates

Janet has worked for 50 years as a Registered Nurse and has maintained an interest and involvement in natural therapies.  She is also a Reiki Practitioner and has studied Rongoa and Mirimiri. After receiving a Spinal Flow treatment from visiting friends and being amazed at the increased function and relief she felt from a long-term shoulder injury, she felt compelled to learn this amazing therapy. Janet is very humble about her healing ability and insists Spinal Flow assists the recipient to find blockages in their own spine, and with nudging from the Spinal Flow practitioner undoes these blockages that the body put there in a bid to manage stress and trauma.  Spinal Flow helps the body to move from the Fight/Flight state to Rest/Digest and heal.  Healing is impossible when in Fight/Flight

Spinal flow invites each person to begin a journey of self-healing as they learn to trust their own bodies and processes.

Ned Bates

Ned has been interested in healing for many years.  It started with a neck fracture 30+ years ago when he studied Hypnotherapy as a way to self-manage his pain.  He is also a Reiki Master, and studied Rongoa Māori Miri Miri, Traditional Thai Massage and then discovered Spinal Flow.  People who know Ned would describe him as a naturally gifted healer who has helped many people relieve their physical and emotional pain.

He has seen what spinal flow does for people and believes that Spinal Flow discovered him.  It fits with his philosophy of ease and flow in life results in healthy mind, healthy body.

What is Spinal Flow?

Spinal Flow was created by Dr Carli Axford who found her chiropractic practice frustrating as she felt she was only putting band aids on her clients, and temporarily relieving pain. She wanted to find a way to facilitate healing.  She says, " Our bodies hold signs and symptoms of the stress we’ve experienced, practitioners learn how to feel for the three types of stress which cause spinal blockages – chemical, physical or emotional stress.”  Once the body realises this historical stress is there it can heal it.

What does it feel like?

In the first session the practitioner will assess posture, underlying tension, pain points, flexibility or restriction of movement.  The purpose of this is to give you a baseline on which to measure how the treatments are helping you.  From there the session becomes a standard therapeutic session.

This looks like:

On a massage table, fully clothed.  The Practitioner will work through a number of points on your body, with gentle touch.

The aim of this touch is to unlock the hidden potential in your mind/body, so you return to a place of health and well being.
